Maybe you've got good footers, or 10% dedicated visitors who've you educated to use the footer then? I stand by my words, take it as a proof of you having a good footer strategy then!

Our footer drives 10% of our internal traffic. Saying "footers don't work" without real evidence is uncool ;-)

I like to use the footer as the place to capture those people that have taken the time to view the page and scroll down. Whatever your call to action might be for a particular site, I like to make it easy for the viewer to take that action while what they read is fresh in their mind. If that is filling out a contact form, subscribing to an email newsletter (or RSS feed) or buying something I like to have that ready for them to proceed with.

I can see your point for blogs and most sites though. In fact I think most of that crap that fills sidebars and footers would just be best left off the site in the first place.

Widgets suck.
