First off, thanks for the comment John.

While I recognize that the iPhone is a stretch (I said so), it came to mind because of how easy it is to transfer information from the iPhone. I see this as a significant improvement in phones, although I do see your point.

And thank you for catching my LiveJournal statement. Looking back, the experience I had was with _EasyJournal_, not LiveJournal. The reason it wasn't standard was that half of this friend's old posts weren't included in her RSS feed. Made it a real pain, as you can imagine. But yeah, EasyJournal not LiveJournal. Corrected the post, thanks again.

I'm interested on how you say the iPhone could be an example of an open system. Other than the rendering of open standards, there's nothing open about it. Without significant hacking, you can't install anything on it, there's virtual lock-in with the iTunes Store and the iPod-like DRM strategy.

The only way I could agree with what you're saying is that you can get the information off your iPhone since it's got a similar OS X interface, uses many of the same programs, and if you go in through another computer, you could conceivably get the information off of it in an open format. Then again, that's a benefit of Mac OS X, not the iPhone.

And please explain what a "standard interface" is, as WordPress apparently has on, while LiveJournal doesn't. Because you're not familiar with it doesn't make it non-standard.
