Don't believe the hype! But people do... Unfortunately that doesn't help people like me who don't care much about image management. I've never cared much about my image or being super-popular because the people I have met more than occasionally know what I am like and accept me. I get enough respect to feel I am an OK guy.

But on the web, it is all image. These words, which are my way of expressing the real me, are simply image on the web because they are all that others have to go on. If I write enough and people read them all then they start to see what I am like but people do not read them all and if this message does not grab them, and it probably won't, then they are unlikely to explore any further to find the real me.

I think you're dead right that it's about how you make yourself look, but it is very difficult to develop a more positive online persona just to be as popular online as you are offline. And to develop it so you look even better online is, for me and perhaps for many others, very artificial and uncomfortable. But at least I can see through the fakers, I think.

Maybe it's just another living strategy people used everyday, to pretend to be somebody else and make people believe that. They do benifit from being the other guy through all the pretending. Those who believe him go blind, since they cant figure things out themselves, they turned to him. It's just a process people looking for a YES, it comes more important than if or not he really what he needs at the beginning, they ask sometimes just for comfort.
