I think it stinks that people don’t use their address bar any more – or ever in some peoples case. I just did a website for some people and they were freaking out because they couldn’t ‘find’ their 4 hour old website. It was somehow MY fault, and I was lying about finishing the site. I finally figured out what the problem was – they weren’t typing the URL into the address bar. I really wanted to go to their house and take their computer away from them.

Are URL’s Really Becoming Extinct?…

I was reading an article earlier this morning on one of my favorite blogs, Wisdump, about how “normal people” don’t tend to use URLs as much as they used too, blaming search engines like Google for the extinction of said technologies….

URLs definitely are not structured in a friendly manner, especially for the Joe Schmoe user. Nobody understands http:// or @.

Steve, yes, that too. And when you think about it, this feature behaves like an AJAX-powered autocomplete internal search engine for your browsing history. So we search more and more, and memorize URLs less.
