Well I can't even imagine how someone can compare flash with html / CSS ? They belong to different categories. Flash is an element of a web site while html and css are the structure and layout presentation of a web site.

Now I am sure until they can make flash 100% accessible for blind and visually impaired users I will not even thinking about using flash on my home page other than when it does not hold information and is only for presentational purposes.

Flash can be made somehow accessible though, but not 100%. For a sample visit my page at:

http://cssfreelancer.awardspace.com/accessible-flash.html

Combining html, css and flash would give the best result where you can take necessary precautions to make the flash accessible and usable.

Flash is the epitome of design, the quintessence of art

But we can't say flash is competeing with html, css or javascript.

I breeze through all by combining

I hope this is a turn in history for the better. A pure flash website up until this point has been 90% plus unreadable to the search engines. It is the CSS/Flash hybrid that has been cutting edge. I pray for the day to come when flash is fully readable by the search engines. I look forward to having the artistic freedom of Photoshop coupled the design standard output of Flash/Air. This would create an art surge of great designs and raise the bar of measurement for the internet's best designs.

Silverlight never stood a chance.

Fact that Flash is open source now won't change anything on the market.

Dietrich, I wouldn't call it completely open source if you want to be strict about it, but allowing developers to create their own flash players and waiving developer license fees in general seems to be in the spirit of open source.

Not that I was the first person to call Open Screen open source, if you want me to be defensive about it!

How did "Open Screen" turn into "Open Source?" They've removed the licensing restrictions from the specification, and they'll start to publish API's, but there is a real lack of "source."
