IE has market advantage solely based on the fact that it comes bundled with Windows. That means that average consumer does not care what browser he/she has installed as long as it can be used.

If this plugin does not get installed directly via Windows update, and as high priority update (remeber IE7 a while ago?), web developers who care about crossbrowser compatibility will still develop their respected sites the same way.

I would pay good money to see this happen. The feeble cult of a browser that is MSIE has been severely stifling innovation and costing our industry a fortune in real cash and lost opportunities. If this worked it would allow companies like ours to quickly spread through enterprises with better products.

Coincidental, just yesterday I twittered for a solution like this http://twitter.com/sireland/statuses/893208837
