Big Money Tips

Summary: The launch of Big Money Tips along with a contest.

Really not much to say about the latest site in the 9rules Network, Big Money Tips. If you are interested in making money online (not spam) then have a look at this site. If not then feel free to ignore it.

Since this site is geared more towards a different audience then the people here (although I am sure many will be interested) the focus on the design was much less than on previous sites. Hell, let's be honest, I didn't even think about the design when I created the site :-) Still some work needs to be done, but you can already find some valuable content within.

I wasn't even going to write an entry for this site but I have an addiction with having contests. I figured this one would be fun and easy for everyone to get involved in. Here is the deal, all the sites that are created from now on in the network are there to make money. Simple as that.

Of course I have an interest in each one and they are there for my own enjoyment, but I already have enough sites that bring in a tiny bit and are more there for my own experience. The new sites are there to provide me with a supplemental income. With that said it's time for the contest.

The contest

It's simple, guess how much Big Money Tips makes during the month of September from Google and Amazon revenues. Closest person wins $20 Paypal (big time, I know). Leave guesses in the comments and you better use the correct email if you want credit. Doesn't get much easier than that.

You only get one guess and once it's made you can't change it and let's say the contest ends August 31st.

Sample Articles

Some articles that this audience might find interest in:

Hope some people get something out of the site.

FYI... your "contact" and "stay updated" buttons are a bit taller than the rest in IE.

JC (http://thelionsweb.com/weblog)

#2

Damn, people still use IE? :-P

From a design standpoint the site is a lot to be desired. Anyways no guess for the contest? Chicken.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#3

Sure, why not.

I will guess $76 (I really have no clue)

Pauls march towards world domination continues :-) . How on earth do you find the time mate?

If you don't mind me saying the header graphics a bit rough and what exactly made you want to check "Mesothelioma" adsense price?????

Anyway good luck in the new enterprise.

Leith (http://persevere.lineages.co.uk)

#5

$47.29

Derek (http://www.onethreeone.com/blog/)

#6

When I go to the monthly archive page I lose the stylesheet...

Derek (http://www.onethreeone.com/blog/)

#7

If you follow the biz "Mesothelioma" is just one of those words that are known. I have seen people paying as much as $70/click for that word. Usually these are law firms.

Derek, yeah I haven't even touched those pages yet. Will get on that tonight. And $47.29 huh? Haha, better be right on the money there bub :-)

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#8

And yes if I were to use an adjective to describe the header image I think I would use "disgusting".

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#9

I have no clue either, but I reckon something called "Big Money Tips" and linked to from this website is bound to get decent Google Juice, so I'll go for US$120.01.

Jim Dabell (http://www.jimdabell.com/)

#10

Nice one Scrivs, can't go wrong with all this PR behind it.
I'll bet you make $123.09

Percept (http://percept.be)

#11

I love how no one is picking even numbers. You people should play the lottery. Over $100 looks good for the first month though. Let's see if I can get that.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#12

Do you get more Adsense money when you spell the words wrong? :-P

"searche engine optimization"

The header is awful. The font isn't that bad, and it's not all that hard to read (though a bit in some spots), but that dollar sign just kills it. It makes it look like a pyramid scheme. :P

I'm guessing that the reason the buttons are bigger in IE is because of the right column.

About the contest, I think you'll make about $150 from the ads, especially since you'll be posting about the ads and making money.

I do know for sure how much money you'll be making off of me: $0 :-P I use Adblock so I can't even see them anyway.

#13

Hmmm... I'll guess $95.. this is really hard... hehe

Brian Barbutti (http://barbutti.no-ip.com)

#14

I am going to guess $155

Bryan (http://www.juicedthoughts.com)

#15

I'm going to raise the stakes and guess $200. Also, I know nothing about ad revenues.

Jack (http://boxofjack.com)

#16

I'm guessing $200. I believe in you.

(And, it is for the month of September, so who knows what you'll come up with in the next 6 weeks...)

#17

"Make money now, let me show you how!"

Oh, sorry.

Putting on my "Price is Right" hat -
I bid $1.00, Bob

You need to work on that header, man. It's got the cheese factor working overtime.

Mark (http://[email protected]/ltshdw)

#18

Goes to show that no matter how many times I say design is not an issue at the moment that everyone comments on it. I guess it is to be expected on a design blog.

Only a $1? You will lose in the first 30 minutes.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#19

Hmmm...
Google served over 1 million ads to one of my automotive sites last month and I made under $100 (but I've noticed a downward trend in clicks).

Big Money Tips is new, has no Pagerank, and no inbound links, so it appears it will all come from here.

$20.00

Ian Firth (http://www.divsoft.com)

#20

I think I have an unfair advantage, seeing as how I know how much Scrivs pulls in from current AdSense and Amazon hits, so before he disqualifies me, I want to make my prediction:

$85.00

Mike (http://phark.typepad.com)

#21

I was expecting to see a much more tacky, flea market feel :-) $229.99

Peter (http://www.01010.org/)

#22

I'm not predicting that you'll only get a dollar, but rather using the closest with out going over strategy.

In getting back to the "design doesn't matter" argument...Sure it does, and I think it really applies when the developer has a history -- such as yourself -- of design. In your case specically, discussions of good design, critiques of design, showcases of good design, a knowledge base offering of books on good design...

I would think in this particular case, we'd prove the design = credibility theory established in the Stanford study I mentioned here previously.

Mark (http://www.lightpierce.com/ltshdw)

#23

Ah, I'm not saying the design of the site doesn't matter to me at all as it does, I just meant that it didnt' take priority when working on the site. The design will be improved a little over time. I mean I can't look at that site daily and be pleased with it.

And it would be great to test something like that, but I think too many variables become involved. I do have a test that I have been thinking about using which might work. Just have to get around to doing it.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#24

$310

Eris (http://www.erisfree.com)

#25

I'm going with $213. Good luck.

P.S. Change the header :-)

TikTokk

#26

My guess -- $57.45

No real basis -- just find it hard to imagine the site getting $100 in the first month, but $50 seemed doable. :)

M (http://myfood4thought.blogspot.com)

#27

$68

I kind of liked the old header image with the bills and coins. Something bothers me about the green one. But I know you're not done yet. :)

Jennifer Grucza (http://jennifergrucza.com)

#28

$35

Jamie

#29

Man you people give me no credit ;-)

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#30

*Pinky goes to the side of mouth* - $1 billionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn dollars....muhahahahahahhahah.

I still stand by my $155 though :)

Bryan (http://www.juicedthoughts.com)

#31

$420

As for the design: The content will matter most to people who view the web site, so it's easy to ignore the design. I'm sure most of them won't give a toss.

Did the responses to the "flea market design" article inspire you at all?

Robert Lofthouse (http://www.ghxdesign.com)

#32

The responses didn't really influence since I seem to have an understanding how things go. Different audiences have different expectations. The "get rich quick" crowd really care less about a design and that is why people pulling in 10k-20k a month have ugly sites and could care less about them.

For Big Money Tips people would definitely go for the content and as long as I didn't interrupt them I thought the site would do just fine. The only real improvements that will be seen are the header to help increase the branding. Other than that the "plain template" design is growing on me :-)

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#33

I say $132.00

Did I even get close?

tony w

#34

Strangely enough the header has grown on me. There's nothing beautiful about corporation, money or having an avarice and the design suits the web site. The big type for the header also represents the name of the web site well.

Sometimes bad design is good design, because it is representing something that isn't technically beautiful.

When I say "bad design", i'm not referring to the information architecture etc, just the layout. A "bad design" that represents something "without beauty" still has to have a good IA.

I'm sure I could have worded this better, but you'll probably get the gist.

Congrats on the new site.

Robert Lofthouse (http://www.ghxdesign.com)

#35

Gotta be about $80...people forget that ads aren't just milkcows that desperately need to be juiced.

(I know I got my frases mixed up somewhere, but I'm too warm to think straight)

PS. Preview page looks spot on now, Scrivs.

AkaXakA (http://akaxaka.gameover.com)

#36

I'm going with $20 :)

Fine print: not sure which currency I'm speaking in :p

Ross Hill

#37

I say $310.42 It should be over $300, if not, people might not make many return visits to Big Money Tips for advice. :)

Brad (http://www.bradfitzpatrick.com/)

#38

Heh, the scary truth comes out.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#39

a nice round number is $123.66

patrick (http://iampms.com)

#40

$ 127.50 seems a safe bet.

Prabhath (http://www.vesess.com)

#41

Well if you are giving up $20 it's obvious that you will earn more :)

I will guess for $103 , but this is onlye a guess like all others, it's like playing the loto

Jose Silva (http://josesilva.portaltm.com)

#42

$240

Peter (http://peter.mapledesign.co.uk)

#43

127.50

Hope it goes well.

Brian Andersen (http://www.brian-andersen.dk)

#44

hmm. I was going to say 127.50, just because I like the way that sounds, but Brian beat me to it. So I'll guess 365. Nice traditional number. A bit high, but if you're doing stories with words that can top 70 bucks a click, you might just get a couple clicks, eh?

JC (http://thelionsweb.com/weblog)

#45

$138.67
Good luck

Adrian Rinehart-Balfe (http://www.boogenstein.com/)

#46

Damnit someone already did the 1 miiiiiiiiiillion pinky in the mouth thang.

I say $69

John Serris (http://phonophunk.phreakin.com/)

#50

YEAH! Help me, I need a money, too! Can you get me a money, Scrivs?

JC (http://thelionsweb.com/weblog)

#51

I don't need A money, I need THE money. Give me it all Scrivs!

You may not realise this, but JC and I are writing from the home for unfortunate geeks. Remember Scrivs, a geeks not just for christmas - it's for life!

Robert Lofthouse (http://www.ghxdesign.com)

#52

hey, a life... I know some people who could use one of those, too.
Oddly enough, spending time posting blatantly clueless messages begging for money on blogs and message boards are a key indicator of that deficit.

JC (http://thelionsweb.com/weblog)

#53

Wish I could help you guys out. Here I will make you a deal.

You give me $5 and I will give Robert $5 and Robert will give JC $5. That way we all win and make money.

Scrivs (http://businesslogs.com)

#54

soo.. who wins?

Peter

#55

The contest It's simple, guess how much Big Money Tips makes during the month of September from Google and Amazon revenues.

September's not over yet, Peter.

eris (http://www.erisfree.com/updates/48/worth)

#56

I'm going with $25.00 since I read something about a max amount of $25 somewhere. Although that was only one service. Oh well, I'm sticking with $25.

Joe Clay (http://www.gra-phix.com/)

#57

Yikes, I read that as the month of August. My mistake! I say... $429

Peter

Thank you
