In a way, releasing your work under a CC license is almost a weight off your shoulders because you’ve clearly stated that the content is there to build your reputation/experience/career first and monetize second. Suddenly, chasing down content “theives” isn’t in your best interests and you’d be much more productive elsewhere.

Exactly, that is one of my points. Getting so caught up in something you really don't have that much control over in the first place, unless you remove your RSS feed or simply provide excerpts, doesn't help you get anywhere. My time is better focused in other areas instead of having to worry if someone is taking the time to take my content and post it up on their site.

It definitely becomes an issue for me when someone takes my work and claims it as their own though.

I remember seeing a graph somewhere about how copyright, creative commons, copyleft, etc. are suited to each part of the long tail. (Sorry I can't find a link now, my google-fu is weak)

The jist was that as your content moves up the long tail and grows in popularity, you feel more and more compelled to protect it. And that's understandable because, hey, it's your paycheck.

Way ahead of you. ;)

I decided to save your readers from my ramblings, and instead, subject my readers to them. They're practically immune at this point. Practically.

I just composed a blog entry in your comments. Deleted most of it. Thought I would leave this...

Like you, I tend to lean toward open syndication of my content, summarized or otherwise. The value is not in getting people to my blog; the value is in getting my content to the people. My blog just happens to be one venue for doing that.
