While getting people to come to your blog is a victory in and of itself, this victory can feel a little cheapened if you notice that those who are visiting your blog are bouncing right off after just a few seconds on your page. Luckily, there are things you can do to mitigate this issue once you recognize the problems.
So to help ensure that the people you’re working so hard to bring to your blog actually stay and consume some of your content, here are three ways to better hold your visitor’s attention on your blog posts.
Give Them What You Promised
Apart from any visitors you have who come straight to your website on their own, people are likely going to be finding your blog posts through things like search results pages or social media. On these platforms, your headline can make a big impact on whether or not they follow through to your actual content.
Once someone reaches your blog in this way, David Zheng, a contributor to CrazyEgg.com, share that it’s crucial that you give them exactly what they expected to get based off the headline, meta description, or caption you included. If that content they find isn’t what you promised them before they got there, there’s very little chance that anything they find on your blog will hold their attention enough to keep them there.
Make Your Points Clear
There’s nothing worse than trying to make your way through confusing, convoluted content online, especially when there’s likely another blog out there that conveys the same or a similar point in a clearer way.
Because of this, Marcia Hoeck, a contributor to CopyBlogger.com, recommends that you make your points as clearly as you can in order to capture the attention of your readers. When you’re able to clearly show your reader exactly what you mean and can get your point across effectively, they’ll be much more likely to invest in your content for a longer period of time.
Create Content That’s Easy To Digest
Another thing that can make it hard for your readers to immerse themselves in the content you’re providing them is if the writing looks too visually dense. If you have long sentences filling up long paragraphs that stretch far down your page, this might be too intimidating to your readers.
To combat this, Eric Siu, a contributor to Entrepreneur.com, suggests that you make your content easier to digest by making it more readable. As a part of this, try shortening your paragraphs, using lists or bullet points, and bolding or highlighting important words or phrases.
If you want to get your readers to give more of their attention to your blog posts, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you learn how you can do just that.
