If one is moving into a furnished house or flat that is still relatively new, chances are, at least the kitchen has a modular setup. As the name suggests, modular design involves the use of “modules” or separate parts that are put together in order to create a complete and functional system. In theory, each of the modules can be removed and fitted elsewhere if the need should arise, but if you’ve got your kitchen all set up, why would you want to do that anyway?
If, on the other hand, you’d like to renovate your old kitchen, or if you are only just deciding on what to do with a new house, there are a lot of reasons why you should opt for modular design. While it is possible to implement this all throughout your house, if you had just one room to do it in, it would definitely be the kitchen. This is because modular design is all about function and ease of use. Now in the kitchen, where a lot of processes take place, this is simply gold. Furthermore, since the function of each part is maximized, then you can be sure that you will be able to make the most out of every bit of space that you have. If you live in a cramped space, then this may be just what you need.
One of the other advantages of getting modular kitchen installations is the relatively low cost. Oftentimes, modules are sold separately, which means that you do not have to purchase the whole thing in one go. If you’re up for the challenge, you can also choose to install the modules yourself, thus saving on labor costs.
Finally, one of the best things about modular design is that more often than not, it gives a modern feel to any room. Of course, there are those who are not particularly fond of the stainless steel, overly-industrial look, but this can be offset very easily by adding splashes of color to the room. Better yet, why not get inspiration from modern designers, such as Fevzi Karaman? His kitchen design is a fantastic example of how modern design, function, space maximization, and fun can work harmoniously together.

The sink can be pulled out from under the apple green counter top. This makes for easy clean-up after breakfast or preparation of ingredients. There are more compartments for dishes, bottles, and the like, which helps maximize storage space in the kitchen.
While Fevzi Karaman’s design may not exactly be the best example for accessibility and affordability, it does give a great idea of the possibilities for modular kitchen design. Why not explore? Perhaps you can finally get your home to catch up with the rest of your fast-paced lifestyle!
