If you’re a blogger and you enjoy doing what you do, you may someday decide you want to turn your love of blogging into a business, perhaps by taking out a personal loan for expenses or to tide you over until you start making money. You might want to simply monetize your blog, or maybe you’ll want to do more than just that. Have you watched the movie ‘Julie and Julia’? In this movie, the protagonist turns her blog into a book after getting many offers.
So, when you decide to make something more of your blog than just a place to talk about the things you know about or the things that you experience, here is what you may want to do.
Get A Professional Website
Start by making sure that you are blogging with a proper website, as opposed to something with a Blogspot name or wixsite.com. You want your blog to look professional, so you should purchase a .com or .net. Pick a name that works with your blog and it easy to remember.
Purchasing a domain name isn’t a free thing, so you are going to need some money in order to invest in your website. Try finding a place to get a small loan through, like payday loan sites. You may even want to have a hosting site that will help keep your blog looking more professional.
Sell Ad Space
Monetizing your blog starts with the sale of ad space. You’re going to need to know a bit about HTML and setting up a website to make ads look pretty, but it is well worth the money that you can make by offering this type of space. Put a “buy this space” spot up, as well as contacting people that may be interested in advertising with you.
You can also go sign up with Adwords to make some money through pay-per-click advertising. You’ll get money when people click on links that are shared in your blog through Google Adwords.
Market It
You’d market an actual business if you had one, so you also need to be marketing your blog. Have a Facebook page for it, give it it’s own Twitter account, and get it on all of the other most important social media sites. The more you market it, the more people will see it (and the better chances of it becoming popular and bringing you more money.
Consider Turning It Into A Book
If your blog is a true passion of yours and you want to make it more, you could consider turning it into a book. If it’s a fresh new blog this isn’t a good idea, yet. Market it and post on it on a regular basis and build that popularity first. Once you have a following, and enough content, then it’s time to consider getting that book deal, or self-publishing.
