SxSW: Must-See Panels

February 10, 2005 | View Comments (9) | Category: Our Thoughts

Summary: Are there any must-see panels at SxSW?

Alright, now that I know what to bring and do at SxSW I would like to know if you see any "must-attend panels". Maybe you are in a panel yourself and would like to tell me what it will focus on. Maybe you know of a friend who is on a panel and you would like to vouch for him.

All I know is that after looking at the list of panels nothing really jumps out to me. What do you plan on going to?

Thanks Paul. I've been wondering the same thing.

At last year's SXSW, I found myself far more interested in seeing the *people* in particular panels than in the themes of the panels themselves, although some of the panels were exceptions.

Take a look at the confirmed speakers list and see who you'd like to see in person. (Eventually they'll post a list of panels and their speakers, which will make this much easier.)

Two panels that I know of so far that will be must-sees for me:

Creating Community (Craig Newmark of Craigslist and Matt Haughey of Metafilter)

Design Eye for the Idea Guy (but I suspect you already know about that one.)

Aside from that my list is something like "Whichever panel Eric Meyer is in", along with 20 or 30 other names.

I hear the panel on "How to Inform Design: How to Set Your Pants on Fire" is suppose to be pretty good ;P

Yeah, a lot of times it is more about WHO is on a panel that WHAT the panel is about.

Last year the accessibility and CSS panels seemed to be in high demand. The blogging panels had a good crowds as well.

I attended the Red Vs. Blue panel and it was standing room only in a room too small for that subject.

I, for one, am going to chase down the guys from Homestarrunner.com.

They haven't posted the days and times yet, correct. . . That greatly effects what is important to see and what is not. . For me anyways.

Your next post should be about how people go about entering one of the hall groups without seeming like a total leech.

I guess I just asked it. . .

I think they are supposed to post the panel schedule sometime early next week.

Not to be stupid but,
are you sure you're registered?

I see Matt and Mike's names in the registration directory, but not yours.

You might want to check that.

Of course, I could be wrong, I don't recall if having one's name listed in that directory was optional or not.

I think you actually have to sign up for the registrant directory (the online version anyway) unless you were already in it. I was already in it, so I didn't have to sign up for it again.
