The Car Blog

October 20, 2004 | View Comments (18) | Category: Our Thoughts

Summary: Just because I said that I wouldn't be launching anymore sites this year didn't mean that the company I share with my two friends wouldn't be launching any more.

Mike explains the design process. Business Logs explains the reason for its existence. There really isn't that much I can say here, but I can tell you that this is only the tip of the iceberg for what is in store for 2005. And what would make this new site so interesting? Well just like Bet Fest we have some pretty damn smart people writing for us. Maybe you have heard of a few of them: Jason Fried, Carlos Segura, and Didier Hilhorst.

Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to introduce you to The Car Blog.

^_^, it looks pretty cool. I love the alpha the most.

The tabs (not current one) look a bit strange. Maybe the text blends too much with the gradient. Not smooth. I don't know how to explain it. I like the background (white, curves, and modules), but the tab's gradient doesn't seem to fit. That's the first thing my eyes zeroed onto (not that brown-orange thingie).

The picture effect adds character I guess, but it deforms the car. Does the author like the car? I find it ironic.

But it's interesting, because it's like a colourful salad. Unlike safe vanilla ice cream. Hehe.

Nice work Scrivs and Co. Fantastic design. I subscribed even though I'm not really into cars at all.

Oh yeah, what do a bunch of web designers know about cars, anyway? :-P

Those were my thoughts, then I saw their writing.

Nice work! I thought I had too many sites.

Beautiful. Only thing I noticed was that it may be a good idea to have a 'what is rss?' bit on the rss bar... or Maybe rss is more mainstream then I thought.

Continuing on the RSS...

You should make browsers (well, only Firefox, I guess) aware of RSS features, by adding a tag, like the one on this website.

And make sure to add a good 'title' attribute, so it's easy to distinguish them.

About the website: It looks really great!

Niek, *d'oh!* we totally forgot about that. It'll be added today.

I really like the design. Great work!

The tabs are really weird in IE... most of it disappears when you mouse over the edges... for example, in "About" the part from the "A" and left is still there, but the rest becomes a blank white square... similar for the rest of them.

JC, we've been slaving over that problem all day but can't figure out what's up. I get ticked about small things like that, so rest-assured that when I figure out why it's doing that, it'll be fixed.

Sorry to bother you guys again, but there seems to be a problem concerning the charset. When using UTF-8, you dont have a lot of weird characters, so question marks appear, as they do on the 'people' page (Sage Olson).

So I suggest using the plain olde '.

I must say Mike that you have done an excellent job on the site. Very well executed and works smooth (which is what I love most)

I must say that the site is very well done. Perfectly executed and works smooth (which is what I love most). Keep up the good work.

If it were static it would look great. But in IE mousing over the tabs causes them to disappear and reload, while loading the blog itself takes quite a long time as the main page is at least 100K.

So, apparently not launching anymore sites for the year also includes not launching anymore posts?

Gettin' kinda stale in here.

Where can I find a blog software? Hmm.
