Feb Deadline: 2 Weeks

February 15, 2004 | View Comments (7) | Category: Version 2

Summary: 2 weeks to go till the deadline for V.2 Feb is here and a little mini-contest on Whitespace.

Just to remind everyone that the greatest redesign contest on the face of planet earth has a deadline that is fast approaching. Everyone has 2 weeks to get their submissions in and I have already received a couple and I must say that I am glad that I made it a total redesign contest, because these are looking good.

On a sidenote I am approaching 2,000 comments and thought it would be pretty damn nice of me to give the person who post the 2,000 comment a prize. So I am going to send that wonderful individual Don Norman's latest book, Emotional Design. Only catch is the comment has to be quality, none of these one-liners. Anyways, just keep the great discussions going on here. I really do appreciate everything you people have done for this site.

Yeah, I've already started my entry. I can't wait to see the other entries.

Can we change our entries after we've submitted them? (if it's still before the deadline, of course)

I don't see why not. Of course you could always submit more than one entry.

I've started to work on my entry too.
It'll be very interresting to see what others made for that redesign.

I am a bit confused you say on the Version 2 page that only design the homepage but in the entry above you say

"I must say that I am glad that I made it a total redesign contest,"

So what do we design? If we want to enter the comp

We'll after months of lurking here at whitespace the Version 2 contest has made me post something...

I sent my entry in a few days ago, it's my first attempt at a design contest, but needless to say I learned quite a bit in the process.

The Gutenberg site design was difficult because the first attempt I made at it was simple a 'reskinning', which failed completely. I had to start with a complete review of the IA of the site, rework it a bit, and then formulate the design from there, tough, but a most excellent learning experience.

I can't wait for next the challenge in the Version 2 circuit.

Best to all,

James

Matt: I am sorry for the confusion. It is definitely just the homepage, but like James mentioned you have to study the homepage to see what the site is about. You can't just dive in and create a page and expect it to fit. It is not just a makeover contest, but a redesign of the homepage.

I'm excited to see the results of this 'redesign', partly because I seem to learn something new everyday in regards to CSS (tricks, tip and techniques).

Desconstructing a design, picking it apart bit by byte makes me in the long run a better coder/designer and more importantly more conscious of standards compliance.
