index.rdf Is Leaving

September 24, 2004 | View Comments (9) | Category: Whitespace

Summary: If you are subscribed to the RDF feed please move to the RSS feed.

If you are subscribed to the index.rdf feed which is exactly the same as the index.xml could you please subscribe to the index.xml because I am going to remove index.rdf. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but this will help me get a better grasp of readership around here and cutdown on the amount of files I have to worry about.

Hope everyone is having a great start to the weekend.

Changed. Why the switch if you don't mind my asking? MT seemed to take care of generating both RDF and RSS by itself pretty well back when I was using it.

You should just make a redirect to the .xml one.

.htaccess: Redirect /index.rdf index.xml

Michael, that won't really work too well, especially if someone's RSS reader or script expects RDF and gets something else instead.

That's probably right Vinnie, and either way, it's best to clear up once in a while. Otherwise you get left with old junk scattered everywhere.

Heh, I do this all the time:
"Wait, why do I have this file?"
"Oh yeah, I stole that one from another site"
Um, except without the line about stealing things...hehe :p

Just want to get a better measure of feed users and only feel like measuring one feed. That's all.

maybe this is a dumb question, but how do you measure feed users?

well, you weigh how much you have before they start a-feedin', an' then you weigh what's left after, and the difference is how much they ate.

heh

He just has to count the number of hits on the index.xml file for the number of accesses, and then look at unique user hits for an approximate guess at the number of people. If he can filter out AOL and Earthlink and other major dialups that have shared or not-terribly-static IPs, he can reliably say that at least X people read via RSS
