Redesign: Phase 3

December 12, 2003 | View Comments (7) | Category: Whitespace

Summary: Phase 3 comes with little fanfare and with even less changes.

This phase shows very little changes on any of the pages. The two major changes (if you could call them that) are you will now see a summary of the article and the 10 most recent entries underneath it on the individual entry pages and on the bottom navigation I have replaced monthly archives with recently commented entries for the more "experienced" readers who frequent this site daily checking for new comments.

Again the reasoning behind this crazy layout will be explained in an indepth article that will be out either Monday or Tuesday. A different color scheme may come into play once the new 9rules and CSSVault sites are done to develop a more clear brand across the three sites. There will be minor aesthetic tweaks here and there, but the layout is here for the long term.

Off Topic: Just to let everyone know that the web is in trouble. I have been named Managing Editor over at Digital-Web Magazine.

Awesome! Congrats Paul! Am I missing something or is it overly impressive that you have taken the web by storm? CSS Vault, some of the best articles written about web design on the net (on your blog), and now Digital-Web Magazine. I'm very impressed.

ps. When's your book come out? :)

Haha, thx Taylor. Scary thing is this is only the beginning. I got a couple more projects in the works that should keep on changing things around the web. And you are not too far off on the book idea...

I'll add my congrats on the new job. I'm glad to see web designers that understand the nu school getting prominent positions in the community.

As I've said before, I think the magazine style format works well. I observed yesterday while flipping through a copy of Maclean's magazine that they're trying to make their magazine look more like a website. Hopefully, we'll take the best from each other and design more usable, readable media in both print and on the screen.
