Sponsors

September 28, 2004 | Category: Whitespace

Summary: Sponsors are checking out the real estate and prices. Time to show them a happy home.

John Gruber beat me to the punch on this one which doesn't surprise me at all, but over the past couple of weeks I have been speaking with some of my peers and it is time to put those talks into action.

As I have mentioned in the past on this site and on Big Money Tips, AdSense wasn't really made for sites like Whitespace or the CSS Vault. Even though as you can see there are advertisers willing to buy up the keywords that will help them show up on these sites the ROI isn't worth the effort put in.

With the launch of Bet Fest last week I announced that I was done for launching new sites this year and that I could focus on improving my current offerings. One of the plans involves more in-depth articles on Whitespace that many should find helpful over the usual conversations that we have here on an almost daily basis. Nothing wrong with the discussions, but I see some missing gaps in the blogosphere in regards to topics that I feel I can cover.

As crazy as it seems there has been a business plan in place with my sites since last March and now I am able to move onto the next phase of that plan. With that said I am allowing sponsors on this site in two forms:

Site-wide Sponsors

These are your typical sponsorships ads. The same that can be found on Daring Fireball and many other sites. There are five slots allocated for sponsors and the rest have to wait in line. The five sponsors will be shown on every page with an entry.

Now with any of these sponsors I would like to keep them to products/services that would be relevant to the Whitespace audience. If they are looking for nail clippers they can search Google for them.

Price: $100/wk...$375/mo

Entry Specific Sponsors

This is something that I have only discussed with one other individual, but have written about it on BMT. The idea is that if you see an entry in the archives that interests you and fits with what you are trying to advertise then you can sponsor that single entry for the lifetime of its existence. Also you will be the only sponsor showing on the page with the exception of the network-wide sponsor (see below).

I don't think this has ever been done so over time refinements may need to be made, but since you have purchased the lifetime of the page then you have all the time in the world.

Price: Determined by amount of traffic to page.

Network Wide Sponsor

Along with allowing sponsors on Whitespace I am also allowing Network-Wide sponsors. With this plan your ad will be seen over a million times a month since it will be placed on every site of the network at the top of the page. With 9 different sites including a couple stores thrown in here and there the diversity of the audience you will reach is pretty large.

This month (Sept. 2004) the network is on track to get 1.2 million pageviews so your ad will not be missed.

Price: $500/wk...$1,800/mo

Ad Guidelines

All ads are text based. However, you can add a small icon along with the text ad for an extra fee if you wish to give your ad a little more personality without hurting the functionality of the site. Ads will not get lost in the layout since it is almost as minimal as you can get. If you would like to purchase some space or have more questions (like traffic numbers...5k-8k pageviews daily) then just shoot me an email at scrivs{AT}9rules.com.

If you missed your chance to place an ad on the Vault for $25/wk then I am sorry. I told you that price wouldn't last long and many people were quick to jump on it. Here are the new prices for other sites:

All prices are subject to change.

Once sponsors start to show on the page, Adsense will either be reduced greatly in size or removed. If you frequent this site you understand the value behind it and if you are new here and are curious as to what attracts people here then you have to look no further than the archives and the discussions that take place within the entries.
